Python Job Details

Automata is building a world-class company to disrupt the life science industry and empower scientists by making automation a reality for every lab.

We work with labs across the world to understand their specific workflows and needs, and develop personalised solutions that range from diagnostic, drug discovery to synthetic biology. This allows us to simplify common automation tasks, while also supporting more advanced paths for specialised workflows, in a fast, flexible, and cost-efficient way.

We are looking for a Python Developer whose mission is to be the brains behind our automated solutions.

Why is this role important for Automata?

Automata's production team is responsible for delivering high-value automation solutions to the life sciences industry, empowering scientists by making automation a reality for every lab. This work spans many different engineering disciplines, such as mechanical, electrical, robotics and - crucially - software. The software we produce brings our solutions to life, stringing together lab equipment and automation into a cohesive Python workflow. With such a high demand on lab automation, we need to increase our team of software developers to work across our customer projects.

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Working closely with senior software engineers within production to develop python workflows for our clients' automation solutions
  • Working onsite at Automata HQ (London, Islington) and offsite at client locations (possibly abroad)
  • Collaborate with the wider software engineering team to build lower-level components if needed
  • Testing and debugging automation software developed
  • Participate in validation activities for deployment of our solutions

What it takes:

  • Skilled Python developer with 3+ years experience in industry
  • Experience working with Git and Github
  • Familiar with automated testing frameworks (preferably pytest)
  • Comfortable with debugging software on Linux
  • Confident communicator

Nice to haves:

  • Background in Automation
  • Raspberry Pi Experience
  • Familiarity with Docker
  • Knowledge of industrial automation protocols
  • Experience with cloud computing (preferably AWS)

What gets us excited?

We’re passionate about the future of Technology and Automation and our growing success is built upon likeminded individuals who share our passion.

Excited about cutting edge technology? At Automata - and the production team in particular - we are at the bleeding edge of robotics and automation, delivering working, tailored solutions to our customers at a regular cadence.

If this sounds like a good fit and have tick the right boxes, you will love having the opportunity to build something that immediately adds value.
